Reason for the Season

Christmas is such a busy time of year! Between attending holiday parties, Christmas shopping, baking cookies and decorating, I sure do have my calendar full. I love all the festivities, but they can also wear you out.

The busyness also makes me think about how I am prioritizing my time. I’m fully participating in activities of the season, but am I sharing the great news about why we celebrate it in the first place? We have such a blessing to share!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

This is why we have Christmas. This is why we celebrate. I find myself getting so lost in how the world has defined the holiday, that I forget what the purpose really is. There is nothing wrong with decorating the tree, attending parties and giving presents, but, we cannot lose the joy of Jesus coming to earth.

What if we make it our goal to share with everyone we meet why we really celebrate Christmas and what Jesus means to us? Share with your neighbors at a holiday party about your church service, tell your friends that don’t know Jesus why this time of year is so special. Post on Facebook what your favorite Christmas song is and why Jesus is so amazing. If we did that little reframe, we could have such an impact! Maybe pick three people you will reach out to this season.

I’m going to be playing my Christmas music loud for all to hear, and I hope this is the message that others get, because Christ, the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
'Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar;
Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia!
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!

Christ the Savior is born!
