It's Not About Me!

It’s not about me!

When I forget you,

When I feel all alone,

When I go my own way,

When I think I know best,

When I choose my own plans,

It’s not about me.

You are faithful.

It’s not about me!

When things don’t go as I think they should,

When things seem out of control,

When I worry about the future,

When I fear for my loved ones,

When my faults niggle in the night,

It’s not about me.

You are peace.

It’s not about me!

I can’t do anything to earn your love.

I can’t do anything to make you love me more (or less).

I can’t run away from your love,

Nor hide from you,

You will seek me out and

Find me.

It’s not about me.

You are loving.

It’s not about me!

When I am not good enough,

When I fail,

When I stumble,

When I sin,

It’s not about me.

The work was finished on the cross.

You are sufficient.

It’s not about me!

When I am undeserving (always),

When I just can’t get this right,

When I say the wrong thing (again),

When I do my own thing,

When I put my own needs ahead of others’.

It’s not about me.

You paid the price.

You are forgiving.

It is NOT because I am good enough.

It is NOT because of my character.

It is NOT because I am faithful.

It is NOT because I do the right thing.

It is NOT because I live a good life.

My confidence cannot be about me.

My confidence is NOT based on who I am,

My confidence is based on the character of God.

IF it’s all about me,

If it’s about what I do,

Or how hard I pray,

Or my own efforts,

Then Christ died for nothing!

It’s not about me.

And at the same time,

IT’S ALL FOR ME!

It’s about a perfect, holy, and loving God,

reconciling sinful and broken people to Himself,

So that we can be in relationship with Him.

We can’t do it on our own,

It’s not about me,

It’s all about Him.

Hebrews 10:19-23:  “Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a]sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful...”

Is anyone in your family in the service? My grandson Tony will be graduating from Marine boot camp on May 31. He just completed “the crucible” and was awarded a meritorious promotion. He is a young man who has been continuously refined in adversity and will serve our country well. I am so proud of him. Since it’s Memorial Day weekend, let’s remember those who have served our country faithfully. As they say, “freedom isn’t free.” Happy Memorial Day!

What is a phrase or word you always say? “In Theory…” One of my good friends makes fun of me for this but I think it makes sense! Life is complicated and unpredictable. We don’t know exactly how things will work out but I can make my best guess..In theory!

What is your favorite family tradition? The dinner table! One of my sons once said that he thinks our family table is a small foreshadowing of heaven because you receive unconditional love and acceptance there. The infinite amount of laughter and tears we have shared around our family table warms my soul. Gathering together at our table is my slice of heaven! Even though my kids are grown, when they return with their families and we are together-sharing a meal, all is well with the world! For that I thank God!
